Is the government planning to extend the $8,000 tax credit when you purchase a house?

I hear people talking about it but I've yet to find anything that says they are planning to.

If they extended it, where would be the incentive to get a house bought NOW? They will gauge the success of this program in relation to its effect on the real estate market, and decide after the first of the year whether to offer something similar in 2010.

We're all hopeful that they do. But it most likely won't be announced until after the deadline. And make sure you understand all the rules for this tax credit.  Some think it's the full $8000 and it may not be for some folks.

Congress and the Senate have been quiet on that issue.  I am sure they want to gauge tax payer sentiment about continuing to spend that money.

I think chance is 5% it is extended

doubtful - if you were otherwise qualified to buy a house, you would have acted upon it by now
