Is the earned income tax credit unfair to single people and childless couples?

I'm aware that it costs more to have children, but having children is a choice.  Should I, a childless tax payer for 18 years, pay more in taxes than someone who has children?

The EIC is for low income and high bills. Being single typically means low bills... yes, it's unfair. I was single for 42 years and got screwed every tax season!

You aren't paying more you are just getting less back.

Not having kids is a choice too.
